JJ Islas is a filmmaker and content producer rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area, with over a decade of experience capturing untold stories and giving voice to communities often left out of the frame. His work blends a documentary sensibility with a cinematic eye—shaped by hands-on storytelling, deep collaboration with local nonprofits, and a commitment to social impact that runs through every frame.Trained across all phases of production—from pre-production and scriptwriting to post supervision—JJ sharpened his craft under the direction of Academy Award–winning filmmaker Steven Okazaki. In addition to producing original content, he’s led the visual restoration of legacy films—cleaning, color correcting, and reworking pixelation to elevate them to today’s visual standards while preserving their original tone and texture.Whether producing vérité-style shorts, editing long-form interviews, or crafting campaigns that resonate across cultures, JJ brings a grounded, human approach to every project.
