El jJ

I'm a documentary filmmaker and content producer dedicated to preserving and sharing stories about people, communities, culture, and the moments that define them. Over the years, I've collaborated with filmmakers, nonprofits, educational institutions, public agencies, and local organizations to create films and content that inform, connect, and inspire. My approach to storytelling was shaped in part through my mentorship and work alongside Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Okazaki, whose commitment to thoughtful, human-centered documentary filmmaking reinforced the importance of listening deeply and approaching every story with care and respect. At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: stories have the power to preserve history, strengthen communities, and help us better understand one another. The best projects start with a conversation. Feel free to reach out and tell me what you're working on 🤙-JJ Islas
